Wildfire Creates New Opportunities

Finally, after waiting patiently for several weeks, the nature preserve close to my house was re-opened after a wildfire burned several hundred acres. I was anxious to scout the recently burned area hoping that it would provide some interesting macro images based on contrasting colors, patterns, and in the coming weeks and months, new growth. I plan to visit the preserve several times each month as new subject matter will be sprouting. During my first visit I was not disappointed. One of my favorite images is of a burned saw palmetto frond against a burned log. Although there were thousands of burned saw palmetto fronds, this one was different due to the curved lines. I adjusted the brightness and contrast in Nik Viveza and used the Detail Extractor filter in Nik Color Efex Pro.
